Barge Fleeting & Storage Terminal in the Heart of the Houston Ship Channel

Strategic Barge Fleeting on the Houston Ship Channel

Ameritank is developing a purpose-built barge fleeting facility at our 147-acre site in La Porte, Texas — with direct access to the Houston Ship Channel. Our planned facility will accommodate up to 66 barges via a 150-foot-wide fleeting channel, supported by 16 mooring dolphins and optimized water depths for both river barges and chemical barges.

Located at the former Bertrand Power Plant site, surrounded by ExxonMobil, Kinder Morgan, Enterprise Products, and Chevron Phillips, we offer barge operators and commodity traders a strategic staging point within reach of 60% of U.S. refining capacity and the largest petrochemical complex in the Western Hemisphere.

CAPABILITIES

Purpose-Built for Gulf Coast Barge Operations

Designed for long-term fleeting and short-term staging — with the infrastructure, permits, and channel access to support serious throughput on the Houston Ship Channel.

66-Barge Capacity

Our fleeting area is engineered to accommodate up to 66 barges simultaneously, with a 150-foot-wide access channel dredged to -4.0' NAVD88. The facility supports both 300' × 54' river barges and 185' × 35' chemical barges with draft requirements of 2.5 to 3.5 feet — optimized for light-loaded and empty barge storage without operational constraints.

Full Regulatory Coordination

Our facility is being developed in full coordination with the Port of Houston Authority, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and the U.S. Coast Guard. We're securing all required permits — including USACE Section 10/404, TCEQ Section 401 Water Quality Certification, and Port of Houston Fleeting Lease and Development Permit — to ensure compliant, uninterrupted operations from day one.

Direct Houston Ship Channel Access

Positioned directly on the Houston Ship Channel at Mile Marker 308, our facility provides immediate access to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, Texas City, Galveston, and the open Gulf of Mexico. Barge operators gain a strategic staging point for cargo movements serving refineries, petrochemical plants, and export terminals across the greater Houston maritime corridor.
